Wrocław with Kids: Dwarfs, Zoo, Boats and a Rainy-Day Museum
5 min read
Start with the Dwarfs and Sightseeing E-Car Tour. It lasts one hour, leaves from Rynek 14 and comes with a dwarf map, and the operator describes it as perfect for families. Add Hydropolis for a wet afternoon and the zoo for a dry one.
A word on age limits
Where a listing says something about children or families, we quote it below. For anything else, such as an age limit on the e-car tours, ask the operator before you pay.
Short rides for short legs
The dwarf tour is the easiest first stop, and our dwarf guide explains what the figures are. The longer E-Car Tour and Audio Guide runs one to two hours and covers 20 to 30 sights. Its listing has a seating note that matters for families: the benches seat three, one faces backwards, and guests are not always seated together on group tours. If your children must sit next to you, look at the private option, the 2-hour private tour by electric car. Two of the e-car listings mention a heated interior with blankets in the winter months (December to February).
Hydropolis on a rainy day
Hydropolis sits in a 19th-century underground water reservoir of 4,600 m². The operator calls it a place for everyone regardless of age, with more than 70 interactive installations, and it is listed as wheelchair accessible. According to the Hydropolis website, the exhibition is open Monday to Friday from 9 am to 6 pm (last entry 5 pm) and at weekends and on public holidays from 9 am to 7 pm (last entry 6 pm). The entry ticket costs €10.23.
On the water
The Wratislavia river cruise lasts an hour on Poland’s largest passenger ship. It has three decks, heated indoor areas, a restaurant on board and an audio guide in Polish and English, so a child who tires of the view can sit inside. It costs €15.92.
The zoo and Afrykarium
There is no zoo ticket among the offers we list, but the zoo is worth the trip on its own: Zoo Wrocław calls itself the largest zoo in Poland, and its Afrykarium the biggest oceanarium in the country. According to its official site it is open every day of the year, and every zoo ticket includes the Afrykarium. From November to February you can enter from 9 am to 3 pm, and the Afrykarium and outdoor areas close at 4 pm; on 24 and 31 December everything closes earlier (opening hours). Children under 3 get in free with a coupon from the ticket office, children aged 3 to 7 pay the concession price, and there are family tickets for two adults with two or three children, including one that combines the zoo with Hydropolis (prices).
Views from above
The Sky Tower deck at €12.05 is on the 49th floor, about 200 metres up. Its listing names people afraid of heights and people with claustrophobia as not suitable and puts backpacks on the not-allowed list, so leave the day bag at the hotel. The Sky Tower comparison has the details.
When it is a bad idea
Skip the long tours with a child who is already tired: an 8-hour day trip is a lot, and the tunnels under Książ admit only children from 4 years, according to one listing. Skip the pub and beer tours; the craft beer walk names children under 18 as not suitable.
More ideas are in the e-car and golf cart category and the boat cruises.
